In this sector, private equity is attracted to companies with innovative technologies and recognised brands that have established a strong regional or global presence through organic and acquisition-led growth. Sub-sectors such as packaging - where growth rates are less strong and overcapacity and raw material cost increases are common - are less attractive, although larger private equity firms have acquired specialist businesses such as Clondalkin and Klöckner Pentaplast.
