The insurance sector is fragmented, opening the way for smaller niche businesses to respond more successfully to new legislation and target customer groups that are not well served by mainstream providers. Private equity investments in the insurance sector have included Barclays Private Equity’s 1999 purchase of Admiral Group (which was floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2004) and Advent International’s 2007 acquisition of Domestic & General Group.
