To appoint a CEO for a portfolio company of a European, consumer-focused, mid-cap private equity fund. The business was an international designer and manufacturer of luxury goods with a turnover of £250m. The investors required a CEO with prior experience in an executive role, and an understanding of both the luxury branded consumer goods sector and complex, capex-heavy manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate would also have international experience, working with dealers and distributors worldwide.
We identified three search streams to source candidates from: the luxury goods, luxury automotive and branded manufacturing sectors, and carried out extensive research of the relevant target markets. We identified and introduced a number of executives to the sponsor, and managed the process from research and market mapping, through interviews, referencing and leadership assessment, to management of the offer process and final close.
We successfully placed an executive who had previously held the CEO role at a luxury automotive manufacturer, having developed the business from a single product offering to a globally renowned market leader. As an engineer by training, he also had a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing process. In addition to this, the individual had extensive international experience, having built a global network of dealerships across 26 countries, and is especially experienced in bespoke product sales.
